Environmental Poem: THE LOVE TREE, Nikki Rawnsley

The big tree in the garden
Cast a doubly big shadow
across the grass, over the path
All the way to the fence.
Her shade was a protection
against the fierce midday sun.

I noticed where a branch had been cut
years ago and had left the shape of a heart.
I felt her love.

She gave a little dance
As the wind rustled through her leaves.
The birds sitting in her branches
chirped and squawked with glee.
The sun peeked through the shade and kissed my skin.
The heat was soothing relaxed my body.
And I gazed up into her huge branches.

As the sun began to move through the sky
The shadows grew even longer.
Covering more of the ground.
I lay down stretching like the shadows.
