Environmental Poem: FOREST FIRE, by Tara Swaminathan

We were once tall , handsome , robust trees,

With evergreen foliage with pines and cones,

We stood majestic in rows and roadways,

With tourists admiring our silent but daring presence!

We withstood many a fierce wind and rain but alas … temperatures rose..

One sizzling hot day fires broke out with lightning speed tearing us apart from our roots,

Some downfallen with stories untold and some ,fell bit by bit ,

I still stood like a bald and barren tree with sparse brown burnt leaves and shriveled bark,

Soon I will fall and be a part of the earth .

And maybe just maybe come back again !

Till then my friend help us survive and find ways to stop Forest Fires
