Environmental Poetry: Ode to a Sea Turtle, by Kathleen Welton

Myrtle the Turtle once lived in the sea
She is now safe and in her nineties.
Queen Myrtle wakes when the light starts to shine
She stirs and she swims and she takes her time.

When her keeper sees her, he waves and smiles
Myrtle the Turtle need not swim for miles.
She greets him as happy as she can be
Slides right up to the glass where she can see.

Her squid and kelp float down in front of her
Everyone takes good care of this girl.
Myrtle the Turtle now lives to share fun
Grateful to be in an aquarium.
